Against and Because of Borders

February 3 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm

Between human and animal, illness and health, call and response, partitions of all kinds can be violent or generative, mythic or experienced. Two poets live in, collapse, and question these borders: Rajiv Mohabir reads from Whale Aria, in which a humpback whale’s migration reflects queerness and brownness from underwater to air and Guyana to New York, reckoning with human pasts and the ecological futures caused. Cindy Juyoung Ok reads from Ward Toward, complicating the communities created despite national perimeters and all that bounds the living to the dead. Mohabir and Ok then discuss shared and uncommon themes and interests of their work and how reading and writing can cross dividing lines.
